Irene Judith Birchland, 72, of Pepeekeo died Nov. 4 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 30, 1940, in Hilo, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call at 4:30 6 p.m. Nov. 24 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo, for a 6 p.m. service. Cremation follows. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, Roberta Irwin of Louisiana, Renee Hon of Virginia, Jeri Birchland of West Virginia; sons, Richard Irwin of Massachusetts, Edward Birchland of Pennsylvania, Keith Birchland Sr. of Hilo, Neil Birchland of California; mother, Edith Santiago; brothers, Julio Ruiz Jr. of Honolulu, Thomas Moran and Anthony Santiago, both of San Jose, Calif., William Moran of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters, Carol Gusman of Sunny Vale, Calif., Sharon Bass of Metica, Calif.; adopted brother, John Futch of San Jose, Calif.; 35 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
